When God Whispers
What inspires you?
A road trip to Buena Vista, Colorado was just what my soul needed last week. Indiana is beautiful too, in a simpler way, but driving up to the Rocky Mountains stirred my soul in a powerful way.
Inspiration can come in the smallest, most unexpected moments as well as the big, obvious scenarios, can’t it? God takes tons of opportunities to speak to us, in small or large ways, through small or large means. If we’ll only listen.
A flower growing from a crack in the sidewalk reminds us that thriving is possible even in the most smothering environments. A smile from a small child at the grocery store reminds us that we’re seen and valued. Finding a quarter on the sidewalk reminds us to embrace the unexpected.
Some things are almost objectively inspirational. Mountains remind us that God is enormous, mighty, and majestic. Sunsets remind us that our God is one of beauty and creativity and purpose. Laughter reminds us that God is relational and full of joy.

All of these things point to God’s supreme authority on earth and display his great love for us. He can’t wait to whisper these truths to us every single day… if only we’ll open our eyes and slow ourselves down enough to hear his whispers.
If we wait for him to grab our shoulders, stare us in the eyes, and shout his messages to us, we’ll never hear him. That’s rarely his style. He doesn’t force his presence into our lives, but he gently leads us into his presence. And this is where we can sit in peace beside him, take a deep breath, and absorb the truths he’s been trying to tell us all along.
What is inspiring you to turn your ear toward heaven lately? What is God gently whispering to your heart?
